Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Can I get predictions of satellites or Iridium flares during an eclipse?

No, not yet. We are sorry that we don't have this feature available in time for the total eclipse in August 1999. We have simply not had enough time to implement this feature yet, but we hope to include it at some point in the future - hopefully for the next total eclipse. Our advice is to enjoy the precious (and short!) period of totality and look at the sun's corona and the brighter stars which can be seen.

You could use the "daytime flares" prediction page to see if there are any bright Iridium flares visible during the eclipse, but remember that the satellites will also be at least partially dimmed by the moon's shadow.
